Field of Dreams – 4-H Club – Stick-horse Project
This special project has been designed for young horse lovers ages 1-9 to provide them with the experience of bringing their own “horse” to the Luce-West Mackinac County Fair. A special “stall” area will display the horses, while young stick riders will be responsible to “care” for their horses during fair week – with a finale on Sunday during the Youth & Open Horse Show with special “Stick Horse” classes.
The project “stick horse” can be made or purchased – participation in the Field of Dreams Horse 4-H Club is encouraged, but not required. This project is participation based, non-competitive, in compliance with the national 4-H Program’s clover bud guidelines.
This project has been started to allow young, impressionable future 4-Her’s have a positive experience in participating at the Luce-West Mackinac County Fair like the other kids – without the cost or commitment of an actual animal livestock project. If children of this age have an opportunity to sample the “Fair” experience, it may encourage their future participation in both 4-H and other livestock projects.
Further information on Stick Horse Practices can be obtained by calling
(906) 293-5616.
